Immunization Information

Vision/Hearing screening – students (K-5) are screened yearly for vision and hearing. If the student fails the screening the student’s parents will be contacted. If you notice a problem with your child, call the nurse and she will he/she will be screened immediately.

• Any medications used to treat symptoms consistent with COVID-19 such as cough, shortness of breath, headache, sore throat, and body aches will not be administered without a current healthcare provider’s note. This would include metered dose inhalers, cough and cold medications, acetaminophen, and ibuprofen. At this time, nebulized medications will not be administered during the school day.
• Parents/Guardians are strongly encouraged to contact their student’s healthcare provider to obtain metered dose inhalers rather than nebulizer medications.
• Any medication that a student may need during the school day, both prescription and over the counter, will be handled according to recommended Conroe ISD policy and procedure, TEA recommendations and FDA guidelines.
  • All medications must be stored and given in the school clinic.
  • For your child’s safety, medications cannot be transported to or from school on the bus
  • All medicines must be brought to the school and signed in by the parent/guardian.
  • All medication must be in their original labeled container.
  • Dosage for both prescription and non-prescription medications will be administered according to labeled instructions.
  • Over-the-counter medication dosage must not exceed the dose recommendation listed on the bottle. (Exception: A physician or dentist may write a note for a different dosage if needed.)
  • The use of “sample” medication from the physician, dentist, or orthodontist must have signed written instructions from the doctor accompanied by the parent’s written permission.
  • The Surgeon General, the Food and Drug Administration and the Center of Disease Control have recommended that due to the increased risk of developing “Reyes Syndrome” ( a serious and sometimes fatal disease), aspirin or products containing salicylate should not be given to children under 18 years. If your physician orders aspirin for your child a written directive from your physician will be required along with written parent permission.
      
  • All medication may be picked up at the end of the school year. Per CISD policy, leftover medication will be discarded.

All 5th grade girls will be screened for scoliosis during the fall semester.

• A “Student Health Information” emergency form will be sent home with your child at the end of each school year.
• Please list any important health issues such as medical conditions, allergies, or medications taken by your child.
• Be sure to update emergency contact numbers if they change.
• Students will only be released to emergency contacts listed as this is for the students’ safety.
• Illness at school is evaluated by the clinic staff in the clinic area. A child who demonstrates the following will be sent home from school.
  • Fever of 100 degrees or more
  • Vomiting or diarrhea
  • Severe stomachache, headache or earache
  • Suspected contagious conditions or disease
  • A child who is too ill to function in the classroom

Students who require the temporary use of crutches or a wheelchair must have an order from their physician.
